The Security Event 2025

A Brilliant Few Days in Birmingham

This week saw another fantastic edition of The Security Event in Birmingham, and ASIS UK was out in full force! Board members Darren Carter, Tim Molden, Farah Benis, Angel Vankov, Shakirra Patel, and Mike Gaut represented the chapter across a packed and productive few days of insight, connection, and innovation.

Career Support at the ASIS Hub

We kicked things off with the ASIS Hub Career Clinic on Tuesday, where board members Farah Benis and Tim Molden were joined by industry legend Mike Hurst for a practical and empowering session designed to help attendees break into - or level up in - the security profession.

From CV reviews to LinkedIn profile advice and general career guidance, the session was buzzing with energy. It was great to have job seekers, career changers, and students stopping by for tailored advice. We know just how important it is to support the next generation of security professionals, and this session reinforced our commitment to doing just that.

Future Risks: Insight from AlertMedia

Later that afternoon, we heard from Phil Pate, VP and General Manager EMEA at AlertMedia, who presented key findings from the 2025 Threat Outlook Report. His session, Emerging Trends in the Threat Landscape, offered vital insights into the shifting global risk environment - perfectly timed for those updating their resilience strategies for the year ahead. Did you know between 1 January and 4 April 2025, a total of 286 wildfires have been recorded in the UK? Learn something new every day! Attendees also received exclusive access to download the full report, packed with strategic guidance and actionable data.

Networking in Style

We wrapped up Tuesday with our ever-popular ASIS UK Networking Drinks, held in the ASIS Lounge and generously sponsored by AlertMedia. It was a brilliant opportunity to catch up with friends and make new connections in a relaxed setting. Thanks to everyone who stopped by - your energy made it one to remember!

Wednesday Highlights

Wednesday brought more thought-provoking sessions. We kicked off the day with David Rubens, Executive Director of the Institute of Strategic Risk Management, who delivered a powerful talk on From Surviving to Thriving: Risk and Resilience 2025. His take on how organisations can shift from reactive to proactive approaches in risk management was both timely and inspiring.

Later in the afternoon, we saw an insightful panel discussion chaired by Kieran Byrne of AXIS Communications on Technologies Shaping the Future of Security Systems: Cloud and AI Technologies. Panelists from Gallagher Security, Irisity, and Public Safety/Law Enforcement sectors shared real-world applications of cloud and AI integration in video surveillance and access control - painting a clear picture of how these technologies are reshaping the industry.

And of course, we had to show our support for the brilliant Women in Security networking drinks hosted over on the BSIA stand. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces and new allies coming together to champion inclusion and celebrate women in the profession.

Thank You!
