ASIS UK is proud to be a licensed body of the Register of Chartered Security Professionals, alongside promoting the world-leading CPP, PSP, and PCI certifications. Currently, around one-third of all Chartered Security Professionals are ASIS members.

The Register of Chartered Security Professionals is a prestigious qualification that recognises personal competence, integrity, and expertise, ensuring the highest professional standards in security practice.

Who Can Apply?

Chartered Security Professionals must uphold the highest integrity and demonstrate expertise at a strategic or senior operational level in security practice.

Pathways to Registration

There are two routes to becoming a Chartered Security Professional:

Standard Path

Applicants must have:

  • Five years’ operational security experience, including two years at a strategic level

  • A degree in a security-related field or a degree in any field plus a higher-level security qualification

Individual Path

Applicants must have:

  • Ten years’ operational security experience, including five years at a strategic level

  • A written portfolio demonstrating competence, to be submitted after the initial application review

Competency Requirements

To be admitted to the Register, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Security Knowledge – Applying specialist and general security expertise to enhance practices and adopt emerging technologies

  • Practice Skills – Using appropriate methodologies and processes to address security and risk-related challenges

  • Leadership – Providing technical and commercial leadership in the security industry

  • Communication – Demonstrating strong interpersonal and professional communication skills

  • Professional Commitment – Upholding ethical standards, recognising responsibilities to society, the profession, and the environment
