Summer Seminar & 30th anniversary celebration

ASIS International – UK held our Summer Seminar and 30th Anniversary Celebration at The Kia Oval – Surrey County Cricket Club. We are grateful for the support we have in the UK from our members, sponsors and exhibitors, as we couldn’t hold these fantastic events without them.

We started the day with an ED&I Track Gayle Berry spoke on Love Activism – how to bring about positive change in the wor4ld as a leader, followed by Mirela Sula, CEO and founder of Global Woman Magazine and Global woman club.  We hosted 2 panel discussions one led by Richard Brooks CPP PSP PCI our NextGen Director on Inspiring the next generation: strategies and tools for motivating future security leaders with the support of Nicci Cooper, Shakirra Patel, Michael Bell and Lisa Baskott.

Our second panel discussion was Women’s Night Safety: building safe spaces and strengthening communities. Led by Yolanda Hamblem with Judy Atkinson, Sarah Walker, Emma Kay, and Karen Whybro. Running alongside this was a security track with a Crisis Management tabletop exercise led by Everbridge.

After coffee and networking we continued the morning with Hannah Wadey and Sarah Walker outlining the fantastic work that Safer Business Network do in our town centres and communities to reduce business crime.

Following lunch and stadium tours, the afternoon seminar featured some excellent speakers, Richard Thompson OBE spoke and led an interactive discussion on how the security industry can work with and lobby government for positive change. Peter Faulding then took us through his career as a forensic search and rescue expert and how his company has played a key part in dealing with protestors over the years.

We ended the day with our ASIS International – UK Ambassador Nazir Afzal OBE who blew the room away with his decades of service and tireless campaign to change legislation and fight for women and girls who have been victims of abuse.

Finally we all made our way up to the rooftop to celebrate 30 years of the UK Chapter, led by Professor Martin Gill who raised a toast to the Chapter.  We enjoyed drinks canapes and cake with a live band to finish a beautiful evening!
