Mike Hurst’s exceptional contributions to ASIS span over three decades, during which he has played a pivotal role in leadership, governance, and professional development.

  • Joint Winner of the ASIS Air Commodore Mervyn David Award (2018) (with Graham Bassett)

  • ASIS Board of Directors Professional Recognition Award

  • Joint Vice Chairman / Acting Chair of ASIS UK (2011 - 2020) – Served alongside Graham Bassett, stepping up as Joint Chair in 2019

Graham Bassett

Graham Bassett’s dedication to ASIS has been a defining part of his career, with over 30 years of active involvement in leadership, governance, and community-building.

ASIS Europe & Regional Contributions

  • ASIS Regional Board Committee (2021 – present) – Member of the Business, Governance & Finance Committee, now serving a second three-year term

  • Assistant Regional Vice President (ARVP), Region 9a (2017–2021) – Covering UK, Ireland, France, and Benelux

  • European Advisory Board Member (2010–2020) – Prior to ASIS Europe’s structural changes, involved in conference planning and governance

  • Speaker at 3-4 European ASIS events and represented ASIS UK at multiple European meetings, including one in Washington, DC

ASIS UK Leadership & Community Impact

  • Joint Vice Chair of ASIS UK (2009–2020) – Key role in rebuilding the UK Chapter’s financial stability, securing sponsorship, and expanding seminar attendance

  • Secured c.£200,000 in sponsorship, alongside Mike Hurst

  • Actively volunteered in ASIS UK before becoming a member, helping with event setups and logistics

  • Helped foster a more inclusive and engaging ASIS UK Chapter, ensuring new members felt welcomed

His passion for mentorship, sponsorship, and chapter engagement has left an enduring legacy.

While he is also a member of the WCoSP, Security Institute, and City of London Crime Prevention Association, Graham states that “if you cut me down the middle, I’d have ASIS running through me.”

Mike Hurst and Graham Bassett’s lifelong commitment to ASIS has left an indelible mark on the UK Chapter and beyond. Their leadership, dedication to professional development, and unwavering support for ASIS members have shaped the organisation into what it is today.
